About me:

I started painting in the late 1980’s when I took a beginning painting class in a local store from a great teacher. From the first time I dipped my paintbrush into paint, I was hooked. I loved it! I painted almost every day for the next two decades, even if it was only for five minutes, practicing my brushstrokes. I would take my brush, water, and paper to my kids soccer practices and games, and practice brushstrokes while watching them play.
I became quite proficient at this form of painting, which at the time was called ‘tole painting’ but now is known as ‘decorative painting.’ This style of painting uses patterns and instructions and is not an original art form, except for the original designer of the project. So, in the same way that you follow a recipe to make a cake, decorative artists follow a set of instructions to create a beautiful piece of art. Most decorative painting is done on wood; however, due to advances in paint technology, designs can be painted onto candles, metal, and a variety of other surfaces.
I began teaching decorative painting in the late 1990’s in my hometown, Fallon, NV. I taught weekly for several years. I also started a chapter of the Society of Decorative Painters in this town. Unfortunately, when I moved to Reno in 2004, no one in Fallon was willing to step up to head the chapter, and so it folded. I also taught friends at my home studio for many years.
After painting hundreds of projects, I was getting a little burned out with this style of painting and feeling like I wasn’t growing in my art. I then came across the work of Robert Warren, who used similar techniques to paint with oil paint on canvas, and within a few hours, a beautiful painting worthy of hanging on the wall could be completed.
I started painting with Mr. Warren in 2002. I have taken dozens of classes with him, and painted many of his projects on my own at home. In 2009, I completed a certification program with Mr. Warren, and I am now a Certified Still-Life/Floral Instructor. In 2012, I completed Mr. Warren’s Advanced Instructor Seminar.
I have nearly 30 years of painting experience using acrylics, watercolors, and oils. Most recently embracing the newest painting trend of Mixed Media painting. I've been having so much fun with this new, intuitive form of painting.
